Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has condemned a Russian drone strike on a passenger train in northeastern Ukraine that killed at least five people, calling it an act of terrorism with no military justification. The assault occurred on Tuesday in the Kharkiv region near the village of Yazykove, where drones targeted a train carrying over 200 passengers. Officials confirmed that one carriage was hit directly, resulting in five fatalities and several injuries, with 18 people in that carriage at the time. The train was en route from the western border town of Chop to Barvinkove, a line frequently used by civilians and military personnel traveling to and from leave. Rescue efforts were hampered by fires, and images released by emergency services showed a severely damaged carriage engulfed in flames.

In the Kyiv region, a couple was killed and their child injured when a residential block was hit, highlighting the widespread civilian toll.
