Meghan Markle goes Old Hollywood glam during solo outing at charity gala

Meghan Markle made a striking solo entrance at the 2026 Fifteen Percent Pledge Fundraising Gala in Los Angeles on Saturday night, embodying Old Hollywood glamour with a custom-designed ensemble. The Duchess of Sussex chose a strapless, oyster-colored gown by Harbison Studio, featuring black piping at the sweetheart neckline and a structured column skirt, complemented by a voluminous black velvet-and-silk shawl with a dramatic train.

Her accessories included vintage onyx-and-diamond jewelry from Maison Mérenor and black suede heels by Stuart Weitzman, completing the elegant look. Markle, 44, wore her hair in a tight, slicked-back bun and opted for minimal makeup with a smoky eye and nude lip, enhancing the classic aesthetic. Designer Charles Harbison was present at the event, sharing a video of himself laughing with Markle, highlighting the positive atmosphere.

The gala, hosted at Paramount Studios, is a key event for the Fifteen Percent Pledge, a nonprofit organization founded by Aurora James that advocates for retailers to dedicate 15% of their shelf space and revenue to Black-owned businesses. This year, Tina Knowles, mother of Beyoncé, was honored for her extensive advocacy work empowering Black communities and creators. The evening attracted a high-profile guest list including Law Roach, Emma Grede, Halle Bailey, and Keke Palmer, among others.

Markle’s attendance without Prince Harry noted, as the couple has been navigating a busy period. They were last publicly seen together at the Sundance Film Festival in January for the premiere of “Cookie Queens,” a documentary produced by their Archewell Productions. Reports from Page Six indicated that during the Sundance appearance, Harry seemed focused on his ongoing legal battle with the Daily Mail, where he testified about the difficulties Markle faced in royal life.

In contrast to her gala glamour, Markle’s recent public style has often been more relaxed, featuring organic hues and linens from brands like Sézane and Dôen, as seen on her Netflix show “With Love, Meghan” and her lifestyle brand As Ever. However, she has demonstrated her fashion versatility with appearances at events like Kris Jenner’s 70th birthday and Paris Fashion Week, where she made a debut at Balenciaga’s show.

The Fifteen Percent Pledge has seen growing support since its launch, with several major retailers committing to its goals. The gala not only raises funds but also celebrates Black entrepreneurship, with Markle’s participation bringing additional visibility to the cause. Her choice to attend solo may reflect a strategic focus on her independent engagements and advocacy work.

Looking forward, Markle and Harry are likely to continue blending their royal legacy with contemporary activism through various projects. Her glamorous turn at the gala reaffirms her status as a fashion icon and her commitment to using her platform for social good, marking another chapter in her evolving public role.
