Jon Gosselin ‘could have died’ from terrifying medical emergency just weeks before wedding

Jon Gosselin, former star of ‘Jon & Kate Plus 8’, narrowly escaped death after suffering a serious medical emergency involving bilateral pulmonary embolisms just weeks before his wedding to Stephanie Lebo in November 2025. The incident, which occurred due to deep-vein thrombosis, led to a harrowing hospital visit and a $20,000 medical bill, but Gosselin made a full recovery and proceeded with his nuptials.

In the weeks leading up to his wedding, Gosselin experienced intense pain in his leg that quickly spread to his shoulder, followed by a coughing fit where he expelled a blood clot. Recognizing the severity, he drove himself to the hospital, a decision he later realized was dangerous as it could have led to death at the wheel due to the condition. Upon arrival, medical tests revealed he had two bilateral pulmonary embolisms, which are life-threatening blood clots in the lungs.

Doctors immediately began treatment with medications including heart meds, blood pressure meds, aspirin, and Eliquis, a blood thinner. Gosselin emphasized that he ‘definitely could have died’ if he had stayed home, as a full pulmonary embolism could have been fatal. His family, including now-wife Stephanie Lebo and children Hannah and Collin, were deeply concerned during the scare.

The hospital visit resulted in a substantial $20,000 bill, which Gosselin is currently addressing with a healthcare strategist. Despite the financial burden, he expressed gratitude for surviving the ordeal and being able to marry Lebo as planned. The wedding took place at The Barn at Silverstone in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, with 180 guests in attendance, including Hannah and Collin, while six of his children were estranged and did not attend.

Gosselin’s recovery allowed him to exchange heartfelt vows with Lebo, where he spoke of feeling like the ‘luckiest man in the world’ to grow old with his best friend. The event highlighted his resilience and the support from his loved ones during a critical health crisis.

This incident sheds light on the dangers of pulmonary embolisms and the importance of prompt medical attention. Gosselin’s openness about his experience aims to raise awareness about such health emergencies, especially for individuals with similar risk factors.

Looking ahead, Gosselin continues to manage his health with ongoing medication and is focused on his marriage and family life. The story underscores how a near-fatal event can bring perspective and gratitude, even amidst challenges like medical bills and family dynamics.
