Ed Sheeran has unveiled a dramatic 30-pound weight loss in a shirtless photo shoot for the cover of Men’s Health UK, attributing his physical transformation to a commitment to fatherhood and overall well-being. The singer, known for hits like ‘Shape of You,’ shared that becoming a dad motivated him to adopt a healthier lifestyle after years of unhealthy habits.

In an exclusive interview with the magazine, Sheeran explained that the turning point came when his first daughter, Lyra, was just two weeks old. After a night of drinking, he realized he couldn’t be the responsible parent he wanted to be if he continued such behaviors. This epiphany spurred him to cut back on alcohol and prioritize his health to better care for his children, Lyra, 5, and Jupiter, 3, whom he shares with wife Cherry Seaborn.

Over the past five years, Sheeran has consistently worked out, incorporating weight training, reformer Pilates, and running into his routine. He emphasized the importance of moderation, stating that while he still enjoys red wine and good meals, he avoids excessive drinking, especially after concerts. Instead of hitting the pubs with friends post-show, he now opts for dinner and a massage in his hotel room to maintain his voice and energy.

Sheeran candidly admitted that he lived an unhealthy life from age 20 to 30, involving heavy drinking, smoking, and poor diet. He described feeling ‘gross’ upon waking and acknowledged that his previous lifestyle affected both his personal and professional life, leading to voice issues and injuries during performances. The change has not only improved his physical health but also his mental well-being.

Despite his new physique, Sheeran initially hesitated to appear on the cover of Men’s Health, fearing that fans might find it ‘weird’ since he has always been relatable as an average guy. However, he overcame this worry, hoping that his journey could inspire others, particularly parents, to embark on healthier paths without extreme measures.

The singer’s weight loss is part of a longer journey; he previously lost 50 pounds in 2019 after quitting smoking. This latest transformation reflects a more sustained effort focused on long-term health rather than quick fixes. Sheeran’s approach is about balance, avoiding fad diets and instead embracing consistent exercise and mindful eating.

The Men’s Health UK issue featuring Sheeran is set to be released on December 23, with the interview already available online. In it, he reiterates that his goal isn’t to promote perfection but to show that small, manageable changes can lead to significant improvements in one’s life.
