Nikki Garcia shares rare insight on co-parenting relationship with Artem Chigvintsev

Nikki Garcia recently praised her ex-husband Artem Chigvintsev for his exceptional co-parenting efforts, highlighting their amicable relationship and collaborative approach in raising their son Matteo during a podcast episode. This positive update marks a significant improvement from their past difficulties, emphasizing their focus on their child’s well-being. On the September 4 episode of ‘The Nikki & Brie Show’ on Sirius XM, Garcia shared detailed insights into how she and Chigvintsev manage their parenting responsibilities. She expressed deep gratitude for his flexibility, particularly in adapting to her demanding WWE schedule, which allows her to spend more time with their five-year-old son. Garcia specifically noted, ‘I have to give it to Artem, who’s been amazing on adapting to my schedule. I get Matteo almost more, and he lets me. Like, he’s amazing,’ underscoring the supportive dynamic between them. Her twin sister Brie Garcia also contributed to the discussion, affirming that the former couple ‘make a great team’ when it comes to co-parenting. Nikki confirmed this sentiment, stating that they have adapted well to their new circumstances, and Matteo is thriving in this environment. She added that she is having fun with the current arrangement, which contrasts sharply with the challenges they faced previously. The couple’s history includes a tumultuous period in August 2024, when Chigvintsev was arrested on suspicion of felony domestic violence, though the charges were later dropped. Their divorce was finalized in May 2025, after a custody battle where Garcia initially sought full custody but was granted joint custody in October 2024. As part of the court’s orders, both parents were required to attend individual therapy and parenting classes, which may have contributed to their improved relationship. Financial aspects of their settlement, as reported by TMZ, include Garcia paying $3,500 per month in child support to Chigvintsev and providing two lump sum payments of $100,000 each. This agreement reflects their commitment to ensuring Matteo’s welfare and stability. Garcia and Chigvintsev’s relationship began after they were paired on ‘Dancing With the Stars’ in 2017, leading to their marriage in Paris in August 2022 and the birth of their son Matteo in July 2020. They separated after two years of marriage, but their ability to co-parent effectively now demonstrates a mature and focused approach to post-divorce life. Looking ahead, this story serves as an inspiring example for others navigating similar situations, showing that with mutual respect and effort, positive co-parenting relationships are achievable and beneficial for the children involved.
