Anthony Edwards Kicks For Kids!!! … Donates 150 Pairs For Back-To-School Prep

NBA star Anthony Edwards partnered with local Minneapolis organizations to donate 150 pairs of sneakers to underprivileged students preparing for the new school year. The Minnesota Timberwolves guard personally distributed footwear at a community event, emphasizing education access and youth empowerment through athletic participation.

Anthony Edwards coordinated with Minneapolis Public Schools and the Boys & Girls Clubs to identify students in need of proper footwear. The 22-year-old athlete selected durable, performance-oriented sneakers suitable for both classroom and recreational use, addressing a critical barrier to school participation.

The distribution event occurred on the morning of August 18, 2025, at the Minneapolis Recreation Center. Edwards spent two hours fitting students, signing autographs, and leading basketball drills. His involvement extended beyond the donation, with plans to establish an ongoing mentorship program through local youth sports leagues.

The initiative responds to Minnesota’s rising school supply costs, which increased 25% since 2023 according to state education data. Footwear emerged as a significant expense, particularly for families with multiple school-aged children. Edwards cited his own childhood experiences when explaining his focus on shoes as essential educational tools.

Community leaders praised the timing of the donation, coinciding with Minnesota’s August 31 back-to-school deadline. The Timberwolves organization supported the event through their community foundation, providing additional backpacks and school supplies alongside Edwards’ shoe contribution.

Looking forward, Edwards announced plans to expand the program to 500 annual donations by 2026. Future collaborations with footwear brands aim to develop affordable school-specific sneakers, potentially creating a sustainable model for athlete-driven educational support initiatives nationwide.
