Epstein invited ‘The Duke’ to meet Russian woman

Newly disclosed emails show that Jeffrey Epstein, the late convicted sex offender, invited a contact identified as ‘The Duke,’ believed to be Prince Andrew, to have dinner with a 26-year-old Russian woman in 2010. This revelation is part of a larger batch of over three million pages of documents released by the US justice department, highlighting Epstein’s extensive network and raising further questions about the involvement of high-profile individuals.

In August 2010, Epstein emailed an account named ‘The Duke,’ suggesting that ‘A’ might enjoy having dinner with a 26-year-old Russian woman who would be in London. The recipient, whose email signature appears to read ‘HRH Duke of York KG,’ replied from Geneva, expressing delight at the prospect and asking for more details about the woman. Epstein described her as ’26, russian, clevere beautiful, trustworthy,’ indicating she had the contact’s email.

The email exchange occurred just a month after Epstein completed his sentence for soliciting sex from a minor in Florida, underscoring his continued activities post-release. Prince Andrew, also known as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, has long been scrutinized for his friendship with Epstein, which he has attempted to downplay. In a 2019 interview, Andrew claimed he met Epstein to sever ties, but the new emails suggest ongoing communication.

Beyond this specific invitation, the released documents contain other damning evidence. For instance, emails show Epstein organizing an intimate dinner at his New York home in December 2010, with guests including Woody Allen and George Stephanopoulos, where Andrew was staying. This contradicts Andrew’s assertion that he was there to end the relationship, as the event was framed as a social gathering.

The documents also reveal financial transactions, such as Epstein sending £10,000 to the partner of former UK minister Peter Mandelson after his prison release. Additionally, emails between Epstein and Andrew’s ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, show friendly exchanges, with Ferguson referring to Epstein as a ‘spectacular and special friend.’ These interactions, while not indicating wrongdoing, paint a picture of Epstein’s deep entanglements with elite circles.

Prince Andrew has repeatedly denied any misconduct, including allegations of sexual assault by Virginia Giuffre, which he settled financially in 2022 without admitting liability. The new emails are likely to intensify pressure on him, as they provide concrete evidence of his proximity to Epstein during a period when the financier was actively involved in criminal activities. US authorities have previously sought to interview Andrew as a witness in their investigation.

The release of these documents comes six weeks after a legal deadline mandated by US law, and they include heavily redacted sections, videos, and images. Survivors of Epstein’s abuse have criticized the disclosure for exposing victims’ names while protecting powerful men. The ongoing probe continues to uncover connections, with figures like Elon Musk also appearing in the emails, suggesting wider networks than previously known.

Looking ahead, the fallout from this latest document dump could lead to renewed calls for accountability. Legal experts suggest that while Andrew may not face charges in the US, the evidence could influence public opinion and royal standing. The Epstein case remains a focal point for investigations into sex trafficking and abuse of power, with more revelations expected as additional files are processed.
