‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ Band Leader Cleto Escobedo III Cause of Death Revealed

Cleto Escobedo III, the longtime bandleader of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”, died from cardiogenic shock, as detailed in his recently released death certificate. The 59-year-old saxophonist passed away following severe complications from a liver transplant, with multiple health issues contributing to his demise.

According to the death certificate obtained by TMZ, cardiogenic shock was the immediate cause of death. This condition occurs when the heart cannot pump enough blood to sustain the body’s needs. Underlying factors included vasodilatory shock, disseminated intravascular coagulation, and alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver, indicating a complex medical situation.

Escobedo died at UCLA Medical Center, where he had been hospitalized due to complications stemming from a liver transplant. Additional conditions listed on the certificate were sepsis, graft versus host disease, immunosuppression, chronic kidney disease, and pneumonia, all of which exacerbated his critical state.

The news of his death was first shared by Jimmy Kimmel during an emotional monologue on his late-night show earlier this week. Kimmel, visibly upset, described Escobedo as his best friend and a profoundly kind and humble individual who cherished their shared success and never took it for granted.

Cleto Escobedo III had served as the bandleader for “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” since its debut, bringing his musical talent and warm personality to the show for over two decades. A childhood friend of Kimmel, he was renowned for his soulful saxophone playing, drawing inspiration from legends like Stevie Wonder and Donny Hathaway.

Cardiogenic shock is a life-threatening condition often linked to severe heart attacks, but in Escobedo’s case, it was connected to post-transplant complications. Medical experts note that such shock requires urgent intervention, underscoring the gravity of his health challenges in his final days.

In response to his passing, Jimmy Kimmel has initiated fundraisers to honor Escobedo’s memory and support his family. Colleagues like Jeff Babko, the show’s keyboardist, have paid tribute, highlighting Escobedo’s genuine character and the deep friendships he cultivated throughout his life.

Escobedo is survived by his wife, who he fiercely fought to remain with until the end. His death has resonated deeply within the entertainment industry, leaving a legacy of musical excellence and personal warmth that will be sorely missed.
