Prince William dodges question about Andrew after uncle loses royal titles

Prince William avoided addressing his uncle Andrew’s recent removal from royal titles during an interview in Brazil, instead focusing on his environmental work. The incident occurred just days after King Charles III stripped Andrew of his titles amid ongoing scandal.

During a conversation with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour in Rio de Janeiro on Wednesday, November 5, William was asked about the “change in your own family recently.” The Prince of Wales quickly redirected the discussion to the Earthshot Prize, which he was there to promote. “I think the Earthshot Prize is a classic example of change. Rather than talk about it, we’re doing it. That’s where I want it to be,” he said. William emphasized that real change comes from supporting environmental innovators, not from his own actions.

This evasion comes in the wake of significant royal upheaval. On October 30, King Charles III announced that Andrew would no longer hold the title of prince or any other royal honors, and would be evicted from his home at Royal Lodge. The decision was part of a broader censure following renewed attention to Andrew’s connections to Jeffrey Epstein, the convicted sex trafficker. Andrew will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor and is expected to relocate to a property on the Sandringham estate.

Andrew’s fall from grace stems from long-standing allegations linked to Epstein. In 2021, Virginia Giuffre sued Andrew for sexual assault, claiming he raped her when she was a teenager as part of Epstein’s sex trafficking ring. Andrew denied the allegations, but the case was settled out of court in 2022. Giuffre died by suicide earlier this year, and her posthumous memoir has kept the scandal in the spotlight, prompting the royal family to take decisive action.

Reports indicate that William has long distanced himself from his uncle, with tensions reportedly rooted in a “rude” comment Andrew made about William’s wife, Kate Middleton. A recent biography, “The Rise and Fall of the Yorks,” claims William was “furious” when Andrew and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson attended a funeral unexpectedly. William is said to fully support his father’s decision to strip Andrew’s titles, believing that Andrew and Ferguson have undermined the royal family’s work.

The title removal also affected Sarah Ferguson, who lost her Duchess of York title, but their daughters, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, retained their royal status. This move aims to protect the monarchy’s reputation by dissociating it from the scandal. William’s refusal to engage with the topic during his Brazil trip underscores his commitment to focusing on positive initiatives like the Earthshot Prize, which awards environmental solutions.

Looking ahead, Andrew’s relocation and the ongoing fallout may continue to strain family relations. However, William’s stance suggests a strategic shift towards modernizing the monarchy and emphasizing duty over drama. The incident highlights the challenges the royal family faces in balancing personal matters with public expectations, as they navigate this turbulent period.
