Angelina Jolie’s ongoing legal dispute with Brad Pitt has taken a toll on her health, as revealed in newly released emails where she expressed feeling “sick from worry.” The emails, disclosed in recent court filings, highlight the intense stress Jolie is experiencing amid allegations that Pitt is suing her for $35 million over the sale of their Château Miraval winery.
In a May 2021 email to her business manager, Jolie wrote, “I need to remove all stress,” and added, “I honestly feel I am getting sick from worry. So I would like us to discuss better support.” This communication was part of documents obtained by USA Today and filed by Pitt’s legal team in a 286-page submission to a Los Angeles court. The filing aims to compel Jolie to hand over private emails related to the 2021 sale of the winery, which Pitt claims violated an agreement between them.
The legal battle dates back to 2022 when Pitt filed a lawsuit alleging that Jolie sold her stake in Miraval without his consent, breaching an alleged pact that required mutual approval for any sale. Jolie denied the existence of such an agreement and countersued, accusing Pitt of waging a “vindictive war” against her. Her legal team has argued that Pitt declined to buy her out because she refused to sign a non-disclosure agreement concerning an alleged 2016 incident on a private jet.
Jolie has previously claimed that during the 2016 flight, Pitt was abusive toward her and their six children, though she did not press charges and no legal action was taken. This incident is central to Jolie’s countersuit, as she alleges that Pitt’s demand for an NDA was an attempt to silence her about the matter. The emails from 2023, submitted by Pitt’s team, include responses from Jolie’s attorneys stating that Pitt is “suing Ms. Jolie for $35 million in damages” and seeking “ongoing damages for alleged harm to Miraval’s ongoing operations.”
In the recent filings, Pitt’s lawyers also requested that the judge deny Jolie’s demand for $33,000 in attorney’s fees, which she sought for opposing his request to access her private communications. Jolie’s legal team has invoked attorney-client privilege to resist handing over the emails, arguing that Pitt’s actions are an invasion of her privacy and part of a prolonged effort to harass her.
Paul Murphy, Jolie’s attorney, stated that Pitt’s reply brief “does not address our arguments and continues to rely on conjecture and speculation,” adding that the lawsuit is “the manifestation of Mr. Pitt’s years-long effort to harass and control Angelina.” The case is set to proceed with a court hearing scheduled for December 17, 2025, where further arguments will be presented.
The couple, who married in 2014 and finalized their divorce in December 2024 after eight years of separation, continue to be embroiled in legal disputes that reflect the deep-seated tensions from their relationship. As the court date approaches, the revelations from these emails underscore the personal and financial stakes involved, with both parties preparing for another chapter in their protracted conflict.
