Pfizer responds to Trump’s call for Covid-19 vaccine data, says Operation Warp Speed deserves Nobel Peace Prize

Pfizer has defended the transparency and efficacy of its Covid-19 vaccines in response to President Trump’s public call for data, while suggesting that the Operation Warp Speed initiative under his leadership deserves a Nobel Peace Prize for its global life-saving impact.

President Trump recently questioned the public availability of data on Covid-19 vaccines’ success in a Truth Social post, specifically naming Pfizer and implying that lack of transparency has caused internal conflict at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. He called on drug companies to justify their vaccines’ effectiveness amid divided public opinion.

In a statement released on September 3, 2025, Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla emphasized the company’s commitment to transparency, noting that data on its Covid-19 vaccine has been published in over 600 peer-reviewed studies and that Pfizer has made more than 200 news releases and statements publicly available since early 2020. Bourla welcomed Trump’s call for openness, stating that transparency is a cornerstone of trust for patients and healthcare providers.

Pfizer, along with other vaccine makers Moderna and Novavax, credited the Trump administration’s Operation Warp Speed for the rapid development and distribution of Covid-19 vaccines during the pandemic. Bourla highlighted that the initiative prevented economic collapse, saved an estimated 14 million lives globally, and reduced healthcare costs by over $1 trillion through avoided hospitalizations and serious illnesses.

The development of mRNA technology, accelerated by Operation Warp Speed, was praised as a profound public health achievement with potential future applications in cancer research and other diseases. Bourla suggested that such a significant accomplishment typically merits consideration for the Nobel Peace Prize, given its impact on global health and stability.

Moderna and Novavax issued separate statements reaffirming their commitment to data transparency and praising the collaborative effort behind vaccine development. Moderna pointed to extensive research published in peer-reviewed journals, while Novavax emphasized its use of traditional protein-based technology and widespread data sharing.

The exchange occurs amid recent changes at the CDC, where the director was ousted after clashes with Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., adding to political tensions surrounding health policy. Additionally, the FDA’s narrower approval of updated Covid-19 vaccines for specific age groups has sparked discussions about access and public health strategy.

Looking ahead, Pfizer has pledged to release additional studies and data by the end of the month, including information on its latest vaccine update, to address public concerns and reinforce the vaccines’ role in combating the pandemic.
