Miss Palestine to compete in Miss Universe pageant for first time

Nadeen Ayoub will become the first Palestinian representative in the 74-year history of the Miss Universe pageant, competing in Bangkok this November. This milestone offers global visibility for Palestinian culture amid ongoing regional conflicts.

Nadeen Ayoub, a 27-year-old model and advocate from Palestine, will make history as the country’s inaugural delegate. Crowned Miss Palestine in 2022, Ayoub has used her platform to highlight Palestinian resilience. The Miss Universe Organization confirmed her participation on August 18, 2025, describing Ayoub as embodying the ‘resilience and determination’ central to their values.

The November 21 competition in Bangkok marks Palestine’s debut in the international pageant. Ayoub will join over 130 contestants at the event, which celebrates cultural diversity and women’s empowerment. Her inclusion follows years of advocacy for Palestinian representation in global cultural events.

Ayoub framed her participation as giving voice to Palestinians during conflict, stating on Instagram: ‘I carry the voice of a people who refuse to be silenced.’ She emphasized representing ‘every Palestinian woman and child whose strength the world needs to see,’ while noting Palestinians are ‘more than our suffering—we are resilience, hope, and the heartbeat of a homeland.’

The decision comes amid heightened global attention on Palestine, with over 145 nations recently supporting Palestinian statehood recognition. Pageant organizers positioned the move as consistent with their diversity mission, separate from political contexts. Ayoub’s participation provides rare positive visibility for Palestinian identity on a mainstream global platform.

Selection followed standard Miss Universe protocols, with Ayoub qualifying through her 2022 Miss Palestine title. The organization reviewed geopolitical considerations before approving Palestine’s debut. No special exceptions were made beyond standard entry requirements for new nations.

Cultural observers note this challenges beauty pageants’ traditional avoidance of contested regions. Ayoub’s presence may influence how global events approach Palestinian representation. The move coincides with increasing cultural diplomacy efforts regarding Palestine.

Preparations include traditional costume design showcasing Palestinian embroidery and advocacy training focused on humanitarian issues. Ayoub will participate in preliminary events before the televised final. Regardless of competition results, her historic participation establishes a precedent for future Palestinian delegates.
