Mexico rejects Trump’s reported military plan against Latin American drug cartels

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has firmly rejected any potential U.S. military intervention following reports that Donald Trump authorized Pentagon operations against drug cartels. She stated that while Mexico cooperates with the U.S. on security matters, any military invasion is ‘absolutely ruled out’. The New York Times reported Trump secretly signed a directive allowing military force against cartels on foreign soil, which Sheinbaum confirmed Mexico was informed about but explicitly opposed. The White House didn’t directly confirm the directive but emphasized Trump’s priority is ‘protecting the homeland’. This development follows Trump’s earlier designation of Mexican cartels as terrorist organizations.
