Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have announced the renaming of their Archewell Foundation to Archewell Philanthropies, coinciding with the charity’s fifth anniversary. This change reflects a strategic shift towards a more expansive and family-inclusive philanthropic model, designed to broaden their global impact.
The announcement was made on Friday, December 19, 2025, with the couple explaining that the new name signifies a growing platform for their charitable work. Archewell Philanthropies will operate under a fiscal sponsorship model, which allows for greater flexibility and reduced administrative burdens compared to a standalone foundation. This structure enables Harry and Meghan to focus on setting priorities and choosing initiatives, while an established nonprofit handles compliance and finances.
A key aspect of this evolution is the incorporation of their children, Prince Archie, age 6, and Princess Lilibet, age 4, into their long-term philanthropic vision. The couple described this as a family effort, with the new structure creating space for Archie and Lilibet to be part of the identity they are building together. In November, the children participated in a community meal preparation event with Our Big Kitchen Los Angeles, highlighting how philanthropy is being introduced to them from a young age.
The Archewell Foundation was originally launched in late 2020, shortly after Harry and Meghan stepped back from their senior royal roles. Inspired by the Greek word “arche,” meaning “source of action,” and named in part for their son Archie, the foundation has focused on areas such as mental health, gender equity, digital well-being, and disaster relief. Over the past five years, it has partnered with organizations like World Central Kitchen, The Mission Continues, and Women for Afghan Women.
Alongside the renaming, the Sussexes released their 2025 Impact Report, detailing the programs and communities they have supported. The report emphasizes their commitment to “show up and do good,” a phrase that has guided their work from the beginning. Co-executive directors James Holt and Shauna Nep noted in the report that the mission remains vital and urgent, now carried forward through Archewell Philanthropies.
This restructuring comes at a time when Harry and Meghan have been expanding their professional endeavors outside the royal family. Meghan recently launched her lifestyle brand, As ever, and debuted a Netflix series, With Love, Meghan, while Harry has continued his advocacy through the Invictus Games and other engagements. Their Archewell Productions label maintains a first-look deal with Netflix, illustrating the intersection of their media and philanthropic work.
The shift to Archewell Philanthropies is expected to enhance their ability to support a wider range of initiatives globally, with a focus on sustainable, long-term impact. By adopting a fiscal sponsorship, they can more easily scale their efforts and collaborate with diverse partners without the constraints of a traditional foundation model.
Looking ahead, Harry and Meghan plan to continue their philanthropic work with a renewed emphasis on family involvement and global reach. The renaming marks both a celebration of five years of charitable achievements and a forward-looking strategy to deepen their impact in the years to come, ensuring that their children grow up embedded in a culture of giving and service.
